German hotel: Peepshow included

Berlin (global-adventures.us): Are you looking for a special accommodation? Well, how about a room where the bed hangs almost 2 yards above the floor with a warning sign attached? The attached instructions say that the room cannot be rented out to overweight guests – for safety reasons. However, no word about occupancy restrictions! The bed looks like queen-size, but it may only be suitable for light-weight singles.

You can find this weird room and others at The Propeller Island City Lodge in Berlin/Germany. Rooms were designed by German artist Lars Stroschen, who works under the pseudonym "Propeller Island." The hotel promises unlimited diversity, repeating nothing and being original to the last room.

The City Lodge, called a habitable work of art in the heart of Berlin, may be weird enough to raise some American eyebrows. The Hol(l)y-Wood room, for example, has been designed to offer views to the shower and toilet from the two single beds. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom via red Acrylic glass to give the impression of a peep-show. All walls in the Mirror Room are covered (as the name suggests) by mirrors to suggest that guests live in a kaleidoscope.

All furniture except for the bed hangs upside down in the – well Upside Down Room. The artist promises an "uncannily surreal" experience in the only four-bed room in the hotel. The Freedom Room is described as "A friendly prison cell with a hole in the wall. The toilet is in the room, just like we know it should be! What's different: You really WANT to stay here, it's extremely comfortable."

A leading German Art and Lifestyle magazine did feature The Propeller Island City Lodge recently, as did many other news outlets. Rates in the 45 room property start at Euro 79, and reservations are recommended.  The hotels website can be found here. The stories and pictures provide enough info to entertain a big crowd at your next weekend BBQ party. If you are up for the real thing, you can make a reservation at 011-49-30-891-9016.
