Free air: Divers needed for Lake Cleanup

Austin (global-adventures.us): Scuba divers are needed to help with the 15th annual Lake Travis Underwater and Shoreline cleanup, which takes place on September 13. The community-driven event that removes trash and debris from the lake near Austin, Texas, did draw more than 1,200 volunteers in 2008. They collected about three tons of trash from the shores and waters of Lake Travis.

The Colorado River Foundation, Keep Austin Beautiful, Travis County and the Lower Colorado River Authority are partnering to organize this event. Scubaland Adventures, a local dive store, will be organizing the underwater cleanup for this year’s event. Dive club members receive free air fills and tank rentals.

Divers interested in the clean up initiative can contact John Lindsey at (512) 257-2000.
